Thursday 4th May saw the sun rising in
the east to herald a beautiful sunny day with temperatures
hovering around the 20 degree celsius mark. Hoards of people
wended their way to the Folkestone Racecourse where a Corporate
Day to raise money for both Masonic and public charities had
been arranged by the Provincial Grand Charity Steward WBro
Tony Denne PAGDC.

The idea of raising monies in this way was the
brainchild of Tony Denne together with the late WBro Richard
Flower of Invicta Lodge No.709. ‘The Richard Flower
Maiden Stakes’, was
won by the famous jockey Frankie Dettori and we are sure that
Richard would have been delighted that Dettori, his favourite
jockey, raced home on the winner.
This same venue has been used on a number of
occasions for similar ventures and the day lived up to past
experiences by raising the sum of more than £10,000
which will be divided between the Pilgrims Hospice, and the
Teddies for Loving Care scheme, which of course helps to comfort
children admitted to the Accident and Emergency units of hospitals.
To raise such sums in one day can only be down to the forethought
and organisational abilities of WBro Denne, together with
the generosity of those people who support such ventures.
