Onwards and Upwards - view from the editors desk

I am so very pleased to have been appointed as your Editor, and aided by the advice and assistance of my colleagues on the Editorial Board, it is my fervent wish to honour all the hard work that has gone before by continuing the positive momentum which has led to the great success and popularity of the publication.

Over the next few years I aim to continue the forward development of this excellent and very useful journal, whilst retaining its primary roles:

  • the betterment of communications between all Lodges, Chapters and other Orders which support Freemasonry in East Kent
  • to enable our Brethren, their families and the general public to become better informed of the activities and achievements of our members and Lodges
  • to highlight the interest and support given by our members to their local communities, and their work for charity

I intend to maintain our successful flight forward by emulating Freemasonry itself, which has withstood the test of time by being sensitive to the changes in the world around it and without compromising its tenets or principles, has adapted and modernised to remain a positive and respected component of the society and greater community to which it belongs. Naturally, I have some thoughts and ideas of my own in this respect, but I am particularly keen to hear your views and your ideas for the future of your magazine, and I warmly invite you to write (or send an email) to me with your thoughts and observations which will all go into the melting pot.

I take this opportunity to pay a personal tribute to my predecessor WBro Brian Dale PSGD,PAPGM. He has handed on to me a strong, well respected, vibrant and high quality publication, which has grown in import and stature as a direct result of his untiring hard work and vision. I am sure you will all join me in thanking him for putting service before self for such a long period. We all look forward to reading his feature articles in the years ahead.

So what then are my aims as your new editor? First, to retain the primary objective of the publication which is to provide a vehicle for effective communication between every member, young or old, computer literate or not, across the whole of the Province. Secondly, to invoke a strategy of continuous review and innovative response, thus ensuring that the appearance, layout, and contents are what you want to see. I want you to always look forward to receiving it - by whatever medium you choose. Thirdly to ensure that this well established and powerful communication tool maintains its important place as a key component in the Province's communications armoury, interacting positively with other media such as the web site, and developing the link with the Information Team. Mainly though, to pass on this wonderful publication to the next generation in the very best possible health, ready to take on whatever new challenges may await it.

I look forward to the journey ahead.

WBro Roger Waltham . . . Editor
