Grand Master Suffers First Defeat!
The annual East Kent Scriveners Lodge No.9622
Croquet Match, which was held in July on the Cliffs at Minster
on the Isle of Sheppey, saw the Worshipful Master’s
team inflict the first defeat on the Provincial Grand Master’s
team in five years!
The Provincial Grand Master’s team of
twenty able-bodied men and women dressed in red and yellow,
took an early lead over the inexperienced Scrivener’s
team playing in blue and black and led by Worshipful Master
John Lloyd, but the ‘Blue & Blacks’ fought
back hard under the magnificent guidance of the Team Coach,
and came through to win the match comprehensively by two hoops
- despite barracking from the losing side.
Agood afternoon was enjoyed by all involved,
with a threat that the Provincial Grand Master’s team
would gain its revenge next year on the flatter greens of
Tunbridge Wells!
Unfortunately, no photographs are available
of this fiercely fought event, as they were confiscated by
the members of the losing team.
