  New Assistant Provincial Grand Master
New APGM

After a number of years as Assistant Provincial Grand Master, WBro Reginald Robert Walter PSGD is about to step down. His untiring work during his time in that role has been a great source of inspiration and example to a great many of the Brethren of this Province and far beyond, as has his work in other areas. On behalf of you all, we thank him for his magnificent contribution to Freemasonry in general, and this Province in particular. WBro Walter will continue as Deputy Grand Superintendent in the Holy Royal Arch.

The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master has been pleased to invite WBro Brian William Powell to become an Assistant Provincial Grand Master, and will appoint and invest him in that Office at the Provincial Festival on April 20th at Margate. We wish WBro Powell every success in his new position.

WBro Brian William Powell PAGDC, PPrJGW Born in Shropshire in 1944, WBro Powell spent the first half of his school days in Darjeeling, India, 7,500 feet above sea level in the Himalayas, before returning to England where he completed his education in South London at Shooters Hill Grammar School. From there he went on to complete a Higher National Diploma at the London College of Printing, before setting up his own print and publishing business. In 1966 he moved his business to Dover, and has remained there ever since. Initiated into the Empress Lodge No. 7939 in 1972, he became a joining member of the Military Jubilee Lodge No. 2195 in Dover two years later, becoming Worshipful Master in 1982. WBro Powell was a founding member of The Cornwallis Lodge of Installed Masters No. 9515 in 1993, and also belongs to the East Kent Masters Lodge No. 3931 and the Kent Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No. 5866. He gained Provincial Honours for the first time in 1988 when he was appointed as a Provincial Grand Steward, gaining promotion in 1991 to Provincial Senior Grand Deacon, and again in 1997 to Past Provincial Grand Superintendent of Works. In 2000, he became Provincial Junior Grand Warden. Grand Rank was awarded in 2004, when he was appointed as Past Assistant Grand Director of
Ceremonies.

WBro Powell is also very active in the Holy Royal Arch, where he was Exalted into the Military Jubilee Chapter and later became First Principal in 1992. Appointed as a Provincial Grand Steward in 1998, he was promoted in 2004 to Past Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. He is also a member of the East Kent Provincial Grand Stewards Chapter No. 5866. In 1997, WBro Powell was elected as Chairman of the Dover Masonic Hall Co Ltd, and continues to occupy that office to this day. He is married to Julie and has one son, David, who is an active member of his business. Outside of freemasonry his favourite hobby is flying light aircraft, and he has held a Private Pilots Licence with full instrument rating since 1978, having had shares in a number of single and twin engine aeroplanes during that period. He has also made a study of aviation meteorology. His other great interest is walking, and together with his son has walked the Pennine Way (approx. 275 miles) and Hadrians Wall (90 miles) in aid of The Teenage Cancer Trust. He also enjoys sailing and canal boating.
