During 1992, WBro Ian Maxwell PPrSGD, the
then Master of the Macartney Lodge No. 3283, was the driving
force behind the Lodge’s sponsorship of a room at the
Lions Hospice in Gravesend. The Macartney Room (also known
as the Relative’s Suite) is used to accommodate family
members visiting terminally ill relatives who are expected
very shortly to be at rest.
An ever increasing demand for the services of
the hospice, meant that the nurses administration area was
in urgent need of expansion, which required some modification
to the Macartney Room. When this new requirement came to the
attention of the Lodge members, they donated £1,000
towards the cost of the work, and handed over the money to
the hospice in January.
